Elementary School
Reading Program

Literacy Collaborative is aligned to the Ohio Academic Content Standards and requires a 90 minute block. The block includes a read aloud, shared reading and interactive writing and writing workshop.  Reading is taught in both whole group and in small groups to meet the needs of every reader.  Scottwood uses Leveled Literacy, and the Read 180 Program.  Scottwood has an enrichment program for our gifted students.

Scottwood has an English Language Learners unit. Our English Language Learners are from five continents speaking 14 different languages.
In addition to an emphasis on reading, phonics and writing, Scottwood offers a strong curriculum, which includes, math, science, social studies, health, art, music (vocal and instrumental) and physical education. Our curriculum is directly aligned with the state learning competencies. Students have the opportunity to use computers in the computer lab, in their classroom, and in the Library Media Center. Through the internet, students access local, national and international information.
Homework Information
Homework is sent home each week. Please check with your child's teacher about particular homework assignments. Some classroom-specific homework information can be found under the "NEWS" link.
